A Quick and Easy way to Get Rid of All the Junk on a You Tube Video

This idea came from a Mark Brumley post on his blog.

You know when you watch a video on YouTube there are all those annoying pop-ups and ads at the bottom of the video? There is an easy way to get rid of those:

Let’s say you want to watch Eric Sheninger’s you tube video on social networking at the following address:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P_yaHINO04.

If you watch it from the address above as typed,  junk ads and popups appear throughout the video.

If you simply change the address to look like:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/1P_yaHINO04 it will be free of pop ups. To review, take the “watch?v=” part out of the address and replace it with “embed/” leaving the last bit of information at the end of the address. That’s it. It is quite simple.

Quietube also gets rid of the extra junk from You Tube videos. However, the above idea does not require you to drag a button to your toolbar, a Chrome Extension, or a Greasemonkey Script as Quietube does.

Oh, and Eric Sheninger’s video has some really interesting information on social networking in education.
